This Accountant position is one of a number of critical roles that will be instrumental in providing key accounting support, allowing the existing team to support the development, testing and implementation. Under general supervision of the Accountant IV-Supervisor of Financial Reporting & Analysis, the Accountant performs a range of detailed, moderately complex professional accounting functions requiring working knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

Work assignments include: examination, analysis, maintenance, consolidation and reconciliation of financial records and systems; creation and interpretation of financial statements and reports; participation in financial systems development and maintenance. Incumbent works within the department to provide support for General Accounting applications including but not limited to OFSR, Oasis, Cognos / CDW, RightNow Web, Web Portal/Plone, CFS Intranet, Blackline and Interdepartmental / Intercampus Recharges. The Accountant will work under general supervision and may be assigned responsibilities to provide training, guidance, and assistance to other employees. 

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application to financial accounting and fund accounting. Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting principles and practices equivalent to a Bachelor degree with a major in accounting, business administration, economics, or closely related field, or accounting certificate program. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including knowledge of Microsoft Excel, sufficient to create, maintain, and update financial spreadsheets and workbooks, and intermediate knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint. Ability to work independently in a complex working environment with constant interruptions that requires a great deal of flexibility, efficiency, quick response time and prioritizing of tasks with multiple conflicting deadlines. Excellent communications skills (verbal and written) and strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals at all levels both within and outside of the University to clearly convey and obtain information to explain complex systems, procedures, and policies. Ability to accurately analyze financial transactions and statistical data in order to reconcile accounts, identify issues and create ad-hoc reports for reconciliation and strategic planning. Ability to adapt to change as a result of automation and/or changing regulations and procedures. Skill in developing, modifying, and/or adapting administrative procedures and systems to ensure effective and efficient operations. Ability to research and analyze complex and sometimes conflicting information to resolve discrepancies. Ability to analyze the general ledger and related financial and operational systems, and interpret financial and operational data in varying formats; prepare complex reports in various formats. Experience training on a one-to-one basis and small groups. Demonstrated skill in preparing complex reconciliations from multiple source systems and month-end and/or year end journal entries. Two years of progressive responsible accounting experience or equivalent.
