The Assistant Accounting Manager, Property, Plant & Equipment (PP&E) supports the Director and Associate Controller by providing oversight for the propriety of accounting for the University's approximately $10 billion of property, plant and equipment. This position involves refining, developing, and maintaining workflow processes and related performance and status tools and metrics. It also includes providing and ensuring effective training and development of professional staff. Further, the incumbent actively participates in and including daily staff assignments to ensure the propriety of accounting for property, plant and equipment. The incumbent also contributes to developing financial journals, approving staff financial journals, and providing periodic and ad-hoc reporting and analysis of University financial results and University and Department operational results.


Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of large scale computerized general ledger and subsidiary ledger systems, with special emphasis on developing enhanced functionality and development of new system applications.
  • Demonstrated competence in accounting and business practices to advise department personnel regarding pertinent issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and skills in interacting effectively with students, colleagues, university departments and outside agencies to clearly convey and obtain information and to explain complex systems, procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrated skill in supervision, including hiring, training, mentoring, delegating work, and reviewing performance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff within General Accounting, with other central office personnel, with Campus department personnel, and with staff at the Office of the President and other campuses.
  • Ability to evaluate impact on workload of projects, manage projects (sometimes campus-wide), establish and meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor's Degree (with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, economics, mathematics, or other related field), accounting certificate program, or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to provide professional, courteous, timely, and effective customer service.
  • Ability to identify and deal with sensitive issues and work with confidential documents.
  • Ability to research and analyze complex and sometimes conflicting information to resolve discrepancies and reconstruct prior actions.
  • Ability to analyze financial transactions and statistical data.
  • Strong ability in critical thinking/problem solving to evaluate business circumstances, develop recommendations/actionable solutions, and implement resolutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge of the campus financial system(s), business and accounting policies, annual financial schedules, the definition and application of all account fund attributes, and all of the subsidiary systems and their operation (Plant Asset Capitalization, Equipment and Space Inventories).
  • Experience developing and delivering course curriculum, training materials, and instruction.
