Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is a not-for-profit charity serving children, families, and individuals with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island. A dedicated staff of 600+ provides care and professional services to nearly 2,000 people each year. Since 1930, the agency has been committed to improving the lives and well-being of those it serves by providing foster boarding home care, residential treatment care, and where appropriate, adoption as well as services for adults with developmental disabilities. Little Flower promotes safety and recovery from adversity through the active creation of a trauma-informed community that is “Sanctuary” certified. The agency aims to provide the best care for its clients’ well-being and a positive work environment for its staff. Most recently, Little Flower established an affiliation with St. John’s Residence for Boys in Rockaway Park, NY. The CEO and CFO of Little Flower also serve as CEO and CFO for St. John’s.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to and working closely with Little Flower’s CEO, the CFO will lead and direct all aspects of financial management, IT, and facilities for Little Flower and for St. John’s Residence. The CFO will also manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions as well as a broad range of funding/regulatory agencies. He/she will be innovative, forward-thinking, customer-oriented, and responsive to internal and external changes in order to best support Little Flower programs, operations, mission, and strategic direction. The CFO will serve as a contributing member of the leadership team, and work closely with the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. The CFO leads a 25-person team in finance, accounting and budget, an IT team of 13, and a facilities group of 13.


Little Flower had a FY2018 annual operating budget of approximately $52.6MM. St. John’s Residence budget for FY2018 totaled $10.3MM. 


Ideal Qualifications:
  • Significant financial leadership experience, ideally in a large, diverse, complex not-for-profit organization.
  • Experience with both public and private funding is critical, ideally in an intellectual/developmental disabilities, foster care, human service, government or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledgeable about managed care and other financial shifts certain to have major impact.
  • Familiarity and relationships with regulatory and funding agencies at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical and accounting skills.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment, ideally with skills in change management and business process redesign.
  • Gravitas and credibility to serve as a trusted advisor institution-wide.
  • An effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills.
  • A collaborative, flexible style, a strong commitment to customer service, and the highest commitment to professionalism and integrity.
  • Strategic ability required to assess and, where appropriate, institute new lines of business and/or manage mergers and acquisitions.
  • Experience working with a board of directors.
  • Ability to provide strategic direction with equal attention to detail.

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; MBA and/or CPA is strongly preferred.
