Description

ABOUT PARK AVENUE ARMORY:

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create, students to experience, and audiences to consume epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City. Since 2007, the Armory has opened its doors to visionary artists, directors, and impresarios who provide extraordinary experiences in a range of art forms. Such is its impact that The New York Times declared “Park Avenue Armory …has arrived as the most important new cultural institution in New York City.” Led by Pritzker Prize-winning firm Herzog & de Meuron, the Armory has also undertaken a $220MM, multi-year revitalization project that combines detailed and sensitive restoration of some of New York’s most important historic interiors with a dynamic contemporary renovation. Using these unique assets—a magical, ruined palace and an outside-the-box visual and performing arts program—as inspiration, the Armory offers an arts education program for underserved public school students that is an essential part of its mission, offering free performances and multiple workshops for every production, 14,000+ hours of mentored and rigorous internships, and job training and intense school partnerships.
