Stanford University

Education and Nonprofit

Palo Alto, CA

Here’s a little about Stanford University and the position they are recruiting for:

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program is Stanford’s multidisciplinary, graduate-level scholarship focused on preparing the next generation of global leaders to address the complex challenges facing the world. Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) will annually select up to 100 high-achieving students with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment, who will receive full funding to pursue a graduate education at Stanford. In addition to the core Stanford degree program, each scholar will have additional opportunities for leadership training, mentorship, and cohort-based experiential learning.

Your role:

The Director will manage the overall operations of the KHS program. She/he will be responsible for administrative operations, finance, the partnership with HR, and coordination across the organization. Managing a growing team of three professionals, the Director will also oversee finances, stewardship, event logistics, and facilities. The Director will work to develop and enhance the frameworks, processes, and collaborative expectations that support an unparalleled experience for both the team and scholars, and play a key role in assessment and evaluation.

The Director serves as a core member of the organization’s leadership team, working closely with the Dean of KHS Admission and the Director of the King Global Leadership Program. Reporting to Shriram Family Director John Hennessy, the Director will also coordinate and steward the Faculty Advisory Board, the Global Advisory Board, and the Denning House Art Committee.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a creative problem-solver, a conscientious colleague, and an enthusiastic team player with a depth of knowledge in finances (especially around students), administrative operations, communications, logistics, and team management. He/she will exhibit intellectual curiosity, solid judgment, an innovative spirit, technical expertise, and a commitment to managing both complex and simple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment.

Your Core Duties:

  • Play a leading role in strategic planning and analysis, as well as offer tactical management for the operations of the KHS program — from finance and administrative operations, to HR partnerships, stewardship, logistics, facilities, and everything in between.
  • Manage and direct the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of the operation and collaborations.
  • Monitor trends, analyze data, and direct changes to reflect optimizing for effectiveness and efficiencies.
  • Develop and carefully oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Directly supervise three staff members (and more in the future as the team grows) in the development and implementation of KHS programs, processes, and procedures.
  • Coordinate and steward the Global Advisory Board, the Faculty Advisory Board, and the Denning House Art Committee in partnership with the Shriram Family Director.
  • Serve as the KHS contact regarding the interpretation, implementation, and compliance with policies and regulations. Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues that span organizational boundaries.
  • Represent the program at the university level and to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies. Direct and manage internal and external outreach strategy that includes relationship development, communications, and compliance as it relates to KHS operations.

*Other duties as assigned.
