Another Source’s client, UCLA, is recruiting a Lead Travel Expense Auditor to join their UCLA Travel Accounting team. Here's a little about UCLA and the position they are seeking to fill:

This Lead Auditor position is one of a number of critical roles that will be instrumental in providing key accounting support, allowing the existing team to support the development, testing and implementation. Under general direction of the Manager, UCLA Travel Accounting:

  • Serve as Lead Auditor of UCLA Travel Accounting.
  • Oversee staff and the processing of all travel and entertainment expense reimbursements generated by UCLA and UC Merced Travelers, issuance and reconciliation of travel advances, reconciliation of relocation payments, and payment of T & E-related vendor invoices.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end closing with General Accounting.
  • Participate in development of annual budget, strategic planning processes and performing quarterly variance analyses.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with faculty, staff, campus administrators, and team members and to establish rapport and gain the trust of others.
  • Ability to analyze situations and define the problem or objective, identify relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions, and recognize alternatives.
  • Excellent writing skills to prepare written materials that effectively convey information.
  • Knowledge of travel management or other operational software and various computer operating systems sufficient to interpret users' questions, resolve problems and questions over the telephone.
  • Ability to keep abreast of changing University policies and procedures to anticipate and implement procedural, work flow, and system parameter changes.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and interpreting and using information it reflects to answer questions and resolve problems and to prepare spreadsheets, tables, reports, and correspondence and to use scheduling and calendar software.
  • Excellent speaking skills to present information using appropriate vocabulary and grammar, to individuals of various organizational levels and to groups of various sizes.
  • Ability to obtain and convey information and explain policies and procedures both in person and on the phone to people at various organizational levels using patience and diplomacy.
  • Creativity to assist in preparing training materials, user documentation, and other published materials that evoke reader interest and that convey required information in an engaging way.
  • Skill in working as part of and contributing to a team.
  • Ability to work accurately with numbers, a heavy volume of transactions, and a great amount of detail.
  • Skill in establishing priorities to complete work in a timely manner and to ensure that travel and entertainment reimbursements are paid on a timely basis despite distractions, frequent interruptions, competing requirements, or changes in workload.
  • Skill in using judgment and in making appropriate job decisions following standard office policies and past precedents, and in recognizing urgent situations and taking appropriate action.
  • Demonstrated skill in performing standard travel transactions, including auditing travel and entertainment expenses and reports, calculating per-diem and allowable expense, understanding implications of federal regulations, and correcting errors.
  • Skill in interpreting University policy to perform research, diagnose problems, answer questions, and resolve user and systems issues.
  • Ability to work independently, and follow up with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read travel documents such as airline tickets and hotel folios.
  • Ability to establish rapport and gain the trust of others.
  • Strong organizational skills to create and maintain logically ordered and easily accessible files and to maintain work area in a neat and orderly state.
  • Ability to defuse situations with dissatisfied customers; ability to explain and educate individuals regarding travel industry practices and policies.
  • Detailed knowledge of ethical standards as applicable to manage staff.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the University's accounting system, intercampus procedures, and travel and entertainment policies and procedures.
