Scope of position:

The position assists with financial reporting and accounting responsibilities of the department. The scope of the position includes ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of financial reporting; applying proper accounting treatment; following appropriate internal controls; reviewing work prepared by accounting staff; assisting accounting staff on complex reconciliations; analyzing and interpreting financial results; and performing special projects as required.
The Finance and Accounting department supports all divisions of the museum in a friendly, professional and proactive manner by being creative, flexible and maintaining organizational perspective to support the mission and vision of the Dallas Museum of Art.

Requirements

  • Review and prepare financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and compliance with appropriate accounting methods.
  • Maintain consolidated budget and quarterly forecast reporting systems.
  • Assist with training for annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting preparation.
  • Assist departments with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
  • Perform financial analysis including interpretation of results
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts to the general ledger monthly.
  • Review and prepares monthly financial allocations.
  • Monitor external tax requirements and deadlines.
  • Assist with the annual audit preparation and requests.
  • Review accounting processes and recommends changes as needed.
  • Perform back-up key activities for Controller.
  • Mentor and assist accounting staff.
  • Perform special projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned.

Education, experience, and certifications:

  • Bachelors or higher degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years accounting/finance experience, CPA required.
  • Not for Profit accounting experience preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Advanced Excel Worksheet Skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other accounting packages.
  • Ability to build proficiency in Blackbaud support systems, Financial Edge (Accounting) and Raiser’s Edge (Fund raising).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to drive and guide change.
  • Multi-tasking skills required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on daily and project work.
  • Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills
